Historical Significance
This truly opulent ship, built for the king of England in 1637 was a massive undertaking by shipbuilders of Britain. Not only did this ship have colossal firepower of over 100 guns, but it was also overlaid in bronze ornamentation of well over 600 pieces, causing sailing difficulties under certain conditions due to the added weight. This ship was built to stroke the ego of the king of the day, Charles I. |
